Quad Cities Suzuki Selects Relay For Life to Receive June Donation

(davenport, iowaJune 3, 2008) – The Relay for Life, an overnight fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, has been selected by John Palmer, owner of Quad Cities Suzuki, to receive a donation of $100 for each new or used vehicle sold during the month of June.

“Quad Cities Suzuki chose to support the Relay for Life because it offers a way for us to contribute to the fight against cancer, and it is a wonderful way to honor the memories of loved ones and celebrate survivors,” said Beth Eckstein, Director of Development for Quad Cities Suzuki.

During the Relay for Life, teams of people take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. The event is designed to celebrate survivorship and spread awareness of cancer prevention, treatments and cures.

The Relay for Life of Scott County will be held Friday night, June 20, at the Brady Street Stadium in Davenport. The evening will begin with a survivor dinner at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Live and Silent Auction by local Chainsaw Carvers.  This year’s theme is Tropical Paradise.

The Relay’s traditional Luminaria ceremony will take place at Dusk.  Luminarias are white bags filled with sand in which participants light a candle to honor survivors and loved ones who battled cancer. The luminarias are placed around the track and all names are read aloud.

The American Cancer Society of the Quad Cities provides many services with the funds raised by the Relay, including research, education, patient services and advocacy.

“We are very honored to have been chosen to receive this donation from Quad City Suzuki,” said Kim Hatfield, Community Relations for the American Cancer Society.

“One in three women and one in two men will battle cancer in their life time,” Ms. Hatfield said. “No one should go through this journey alone.  We hope that everyone faced with this disease will call us at 1.800.ACS.2345 at any time, twenty-four hours a day.”

The donation to Relay for Life is part of a charitable giving program that Quad Cities Suzuki developed to support local community organizations. Each month the dealership contributes a portion of new and used vehicle sales to a selected charity. Employees receive information about the activities and mission of the charity, which they are instructed to pass on to customers. The recipient of Quad Cities Suzuki’s May donation was the Safer Foundation.
